C. Van A’ger notes that the inspiration for this drawing was born of his many walks down Copacabana beach in Brazil. He promised himself that he would one day create a piece of art that would reflect the intricacies and beauty of this mosaic path that locals and tourists would walk on everyday. When he finally initiated the design of the work he decided to add the women, because the black woman has been an afterthought when it comes to beauty standards by the Portuguese living in Brazil. This is especially found in pageants and within fashion. So this was his gift to the women of color that looked like many of the women in his family.
